Umrah consists of four main steps: entering Ihram, performing Tawaf around the Kaaba, completing Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and trimming or shaving the hair.
1 Entering Ihram
Ihram is the sacred state entered by a Muslim to perform Umrah. It involves cleansing the body, wearing specific white garments (for men), and making the intention (Niyyah) to perform Umrah. This is typically done at a designated Miqat station.
2 Performing Tawaf
Upon arriving at the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, pilgrims perform Tawaf, which consists of circling the Kaaba seven times in a counter-clockwise direction. This act symbolizes the unity of believers in the worship of the One God.
3 Sa’i between Safa and Marwah
After Tawaf, pilgrims perform Sa’i, walking back and forth seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah. This ritual commemorates Hajar’s search for water for her son Ismail.
4 Completing Umrah
The final step is Halq (shaving the head) or Taqsir (trimming the hair). For men, shaving is preferred but trimming is acceptable. Women trim a small portion of t
