The summer heat has started to drop, and the Haram feels calm enough to actually focus on your ibadah. We have been sending UK pilgrims to Makkah and Madinah in October, and honestly, it is the month we recommend most often to families and first timers.

Before we get into the details, here is a quick snapshot of what October 2026 looks like for Umrah travellers from the UK.

October 2026 falls between 20 Rabi’ al-Thani and 20 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH in the Islamic calendar. These are quiet months in the Hijri year also. There are no major Islamic events or holidays during this period, which means the Haram operates at roughly 35 to 45 percent of its Ramadan capacity. That is a big deal if you have ever tried to do Tawaf during peak season and found yourself shoulder to shoulder with thousands of people.

Daytime temperatures in Makkah in October sit between 33 and 39 degrees Celsius. That is still warm, but it is a huge drop from the 45 plus degrees you would face in July or August. Madinah is more comfortable, usually around 28 to 35 degrees during the day. By the time Isha comes in at around 7:15 PM, the temperature drops to the mid 20s, which makes walking to and from the Haram genuinely pleasant.

Why October Works So Well for UK Pilgrims (And One Thing to Watch Out For)

The biggest reason people choose October is the weather. Let us be specific about this because it matters more than you might think.

In Makkah, the Fajr prayer in October is at approximately 4:55 AM and Maghrib is around 6:05 PM. The two most important times for Tawaf and Sa’i, early morning and after sunset, are when the temperature is at its lowest, usually around 25 to 28 degrees. Compare that to July when even midnight Tawaf feels like walking through a warm oven at 35 degrees. The difference is enormous, especially if you are travelling with elderly parents or young children.

Crowd levels are another big factor. Based on the bookings we handled in October 2025, the Mataf area around the Kaaba had roughly half the density we see during Ramadan and December school holidays. That means you can complete your Tawaf in 25 to 40 minutes instead of the 90 minutes or more you might spend pushing through crowds in peak season. Sa’i between Safa and Marwah is similarly relaxed. You can walk at your own pace, make dua without being rushed, and actually absorb the moment.

Flights from the UK are also easier to find in October. The summer rush is over, so airlines like Saudia, Turkish Airlines and British Airways have better seat availability. This gives you more flexibility with departure dates and usually better prices if you book early enough.

Now here is the honest part that most travel agencies will not tell you. The first ten days of October can still be very hot in Makkah, sometimes touching 41 or 42 degrees in the afternoon. The real cooling trend kicks in from around the 12th or 13th of the month. So if heat is a major concern for you, aim for a mid to late October departure rather than the first week.

Also, UK school half term in 2026 falls around 26 to 30 October in many English councils, though the exact dates vary by local council and school. This pushes up flight prices by roughly 15 to 25 percent during that week. If your children are not yet school age or you do not have school age kids at all, travelling between 1 and 15 October can save a family of four anywhere from £400 to £700 on flights alone.

Let us talk numbers. Prices change based on how early you book, which hotels you choose and how many nights you want to stay. But here is a realistic range based on our October 2025 pricing and current airline fares for 2026.

Our 3 star packages for October 2026 start from around £700 per person for a 7 night stay . These packages use clean, well maintained hotels within 700 to 900 metres of the Haram in Makkah and within 400 metres of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. You will not have a Haram view from your room at this price, but the walk is short and the rooms are comfortable.

Our 4 star packages start from £755 per person . This is the most popular option among UK families. The hotels are closer, usually within 400 to 600 metres of the Haram, and the rooms are noticeably larger. You get better breakfast options, faster lifts and a more comfortable lobby area to rest in after prayers.

Our 5 star packages start from around £790 per person for 7 nights depending on the hotel. At this level you are staying in properties like the Swissôtel Makkah or the Pullman ZamZam, which are literally steps from the Haram courtyard. The service is excellent. This is the option we recommend for elderly pilgrims who need to minimise walking.

A quick note on booking timing. In October 2025, pilgrims who confirmed their booking before 20 August paid an average of £160 less per person compared to those who booked in late September. Flight prices are the main reason for this gap. Airlines release their cheapest October seats around June and July, and by September the remaining seats are in the higher fare brackets. So the earlier you decide, the more you save.

Departure Dates and Flight Routes From UK Airports

We arrange October departures from London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Most of our October groups fly out on Fridays and Saturdays, which align well with the UK work week and give you a full first weekend in Makkah or Madinah.

From London Heathrow, the most common route is a direct Saudia flight to Jeddah. The flight takes about 6 hours and 15 minutes, and you land at King Abdulaziz International Airport. From there, the Haramain High Speed Railway gets you to Makkah in roughly 55 minutes. It is fast, clean and air conditioned. We can also arrange private transfers from Jeddah to Makkah. We include the transfer price in all our Umrah packages.

From Manchester and Birmingham, direct flights to Jeddah are limited in October, so most of our pilgrims connect through Istanbul on Turkish Airlines or through Riyadh on Saudia. The total travel time is usually between 8 and 10 hours including the layover. Turkish Airlines tends to have the most comfortable connection because the layover in Istanbul is typically around 2 to 3 hours, which is enough to stretch your legs without feeling rushed.

From Glasgow, the most practical option is connecting through London or Istanbul. Total travel time is around 10 to 12 hours. We always try to keep layovers under 4 hours so you do not spend half your first day sitting in an airport.

Hotels We Use in October Umrah Deals

We believe you should know exactly where you will be staying before you pay a single pound. So here are the hotels we typically use for October packages, along with their real distances from the Haram.

In Makkah, our 3 star packages usually use the Elaf Ajyad Hotel or the Emaar Andalusia Hotel Makkah. Both are around 600 to 800 metres from the King Abdulaziz Gate of Masjid al Haram. The walk takes about 8 to 10 minutes. These hotels are clean, the staff speak basic English and Arabic, and the rooms have working air conditioning, which is essential even in October.

For 4 star packages in Makkah, we most commonly use the DoubleTree by Hilton Jabal Omar Makkah or the Al Ebaa Hotel. DoubleTree by Hilton Jabal Omar Makkah is 500 metres from the Umrah Gate, which is about a 6 minute walk. Al Ebaa Hotel is slightly further at around 600 metres. Most pilgrims find the walk easy enough in the October evenings.

Our 5 star Makkah hotels include the Swissôtel Makkah and the Pullman ZamZam Makkah. The Swissôtel is connected to the Abraj Al Bait complex and is roughly 100 metres from the Haram entrance. The Pullman ZamZam is even closer, about 70 metres from the Marwah side of the Masjid. If you are travelling with elderly parents who struggle with walking, these locations make a real difference.

In Madinah, our 3 star packages use hotels like the Grand Zowar Hotel or the Diyafa Al Mukhtara Hotel, both within 300 to 400 metres of the Prophet’s Mosque. The 4 star option is typically the Rua Al Madinah Hotel, which is about 150 metres from the courtyard. For 5 star, we use the Oberoi Madinah or the Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick, both of which are right on the edge of the Haram courtyard with stunning views of the Green Dome.

What Is Included in Your October Umrah Package

Every October package we offer includes the following core elements.

Return flights from your chosen UK airport are included in the price. We book these on your behalf and send you the e-tickets as soon as they are confirmed. Umrah visa processing is also fully handled by our team. As of 2026, UK passport holders can use an ETA for Umrah outside the Hajj season. We still recommend applying at least 10 working days before departure to allow for any unexpected document queries. Our visa team processed e-visas in 2025 with a 98.6 percent first time approval rate.

Accommodation in both Makkah and Madinah is included for the full duration of your stay. The number of nights in each city is flexible. Most of our pilgrims split their time as 4 nights in Makkah and 3 nights in Madinah for a 7 night trip, or 8 nights in Makkah and 6 nights in Madinah for a 14 night trip. But you can adjust this however you like.

Airport transfers are included from the moment you land. Our ground team will be waiting for you at Jeddah or Madinah airport with a name board, and they will take you directly to your hotel in a private vehicle . The transfer between Makkah and Madinah is also included.

Ziyaarat visits to important Islamic sites in both Makkah and Madinah can be arranged as part of your package. In Makkah, this includes Jabal al Noor (the Cave of Hira), Jabal Thawr and the area of Arafat. In Madinah, the Ziyaarat covers Masjid Quba, Mount Uhud, the Qiblatain Mosque and the date farms surrounding the city. These visits are arranged in air conditioned vehicles with a knowledgeable guide who speaks English and Urdu.

What is not included in the standard price is meals (other than breakfast at most hotels), personal shopping, tips for hotel staff and drivers, and any extra nights you may want to add. We believe in being upfront about this so there are no surprises when you arrive.

Visa Requirements for October 2026

The visa process for Umrah has become much simpler in recent years. If you hold a full UK passport, you can use an ETA visa to perform Umrah outside the Hajj season. The exact visa option, fee and conditions depend on the route you use and the current Saudi entry rules.

However, we handle the entire visa process for you as part of your package. You do not need to navigate the Saudi portal yourself or worry about uploading the right documents. All we need from you is a clear scan of your passport, a recent passport sized photograph with a white background, and your basic personal details. We take care of the rest.

One important note. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry into Saudi Arabia. If your passport expires in early 2027, you should renew it before booking your October 2026 trip. We have seen pilgrims face last minute stress over this, and it is a very easy thing to check now.

For UK residents who hold a non UK passport, the visa requirements may be different depending on your nationality. Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi and Nigerian passport holders living in the UK all have slightly different processes and processing times.
